Downey Jr. took on a leading role in the new play from Ayad Akhtar titled, McNeal - and also stars Melora Hardin, Andrea Martin, Ruthie Ann Miles and Rafi Gavron. 

The one-act play debuted earlier this month and is set to run through November 24. 

The premise follows: 'Good writers borrow, great writers steal. Jacob McNeal (Downey Jr.) is a great writer, one of our greatest, a perpetual candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature.'

'But McNeal also has an estranged son, a new novel, old axes to grind and an unhealthy fascination with Artificial Intelligence,' per Playbill.  

Robert recently opened up about stepping onto Broadway and revealed how he stays focused, per ABC News. 

'More than anything, it's just a matter of what I tend to do anyway - when I'm really hunkering down on something - is you got to live a monastic lifestyle.'

The A24 film - which is currently in the midst of its production stages - is directed by Josh Safdie, who is known for other projects such as Uncut Gems (2019) and Good Time (2017).

Aside from Paltrow and Chalamet, other stars that have been cast in the movie include Fran Drescher, Odessa A'zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O'Leary, Abel Ferrara and Tyler, the Creator in his film debut.

Most plot details have remained under wraps but is a 'fictional work set in the world of 1950s ping pong culture,' per Variety. 

Paltrow's last time on the big screen was when she portrayed Pepper Potts in the 2019 Marvel film, Avengers: Endgame.
